Chicago is my kind of town, but every once in a while it’s nice to get away.

There’s no shortage of things to see or do but sometimes you need a change of pace.

So if you’re not interested in a long trip to Europe, we have some suggestions within hours.

If you’re looking for a rugged escape, a trip to Jackson Hole Resort might be the answer. Lots of snow with great lodges and of course skiing a plenty. Or if Colorado is more your scene, the Broadmoor resort is a fine choice.

If looking to escape the cold, there’s a charming seaside resort in San Diego called Hotel del Coronado that could be what you’re after. Or further up the coast is Sunriver Resort in Oregon, another resort to check.

If you’re prepared to go even further north and venture into British Columbia (Canada) there’s some amazing places for adventure. The Banff Rocky Mountain Resort offers amazing scenery, or venture over to Vancouver Island and visit Tofino, where the fishing and surfing keeps visitors coming back and stay at one of the many Tofino BC resorts for a real getaway. Be sure to take in some hiking while at either. But if you’re looking for something a little close to home you can find some great resorts in Ontario, like the Rosseau or Touchstone on lake Muskoka.
